What to do during Flea Infestation
Owning a pet increases
the chances of flea infestation in your home
manifolds, and once fleas have invested your
home, it can be a start of a long battle because
to get rid of fleas is not an easy task. It
may take a good deal of your time and money,
but with determination, will power and whole
lot efforts, you can get rid of these pesky
creatures. Different species of fleas invade
the body of different animals like dog fleas
affect dogs, cat fleas affect cats, rat fleas
affect rats and human fleas affect humans.
Fleas are little insects that live and breed
on its host’s body and a flea bite is
the indication of the fact that fleas had
bitten at this point and sucked blood from
there. Prolong exposure of the host to these
fleas may lead to excessive loss of blood
which may eventually lead to anaemia and ultimately
death. Flea bites appear in the tail area
of the animals, in the form of a cluster of
red spots which causes itching, swelling,
inflammation and pain.
Due to this, the pet tends to lick, scratch
and bite the affected area, which leads to
further spread of the infection in its body.
With the use of anti-itching creams, you can
at least avoid its spreading for the time
being. After that, there are flea powders,
flea sprays, flea oils and other anti-flea
products like Advantage flea control and Frontline
flea control which can be used to relieve
your pet from flea bites.
If you have doubts that your pet has been
attacked by fleas, you should first lay it
on a white sheet, and brush its hair with
a flea comb. The teeth of this comb are especially
designed to trap all the fleas, larvae and
eggs from the pet’s hair and skin. It
is important to comb the pet’s hair
daily, because the eggs of fleas hatch continuously
in the pet’s body, and combing frequently
will break the life cycle of the fleas.
Once you have found out that fleas have invaded
your pet, you can choose from a large number
of anti-fleas products available in the form
of dips, sprays, shampoos and powders. You
also need to regularly vacuum every corner,
bend crevice and crack in your house, make
sure that the trees and bushes in your lawn
are well trimmed not blocking sun light to
enter into it. You also need to wash all the
fabrics in your house including curtains,
carpets, rugs and beddings, which are frequently
contacted by your infested pet.
Remember that you have taken the responsibility
of a living being and you must take all the
measures to make it happy and healthy.
